Bloody hell.
The New York Times and NPR *both* have The New India (The Identity Project) on their year-end books list.
The NYT has something called 100 Notable Books, which I was vaguely aware of until 8.14pm yesterday and then incredibly aware of by 8.16pm. Going down the list of titles yesterday, I saw my friend Nilanjana Roy’s fantastic Black River on it and rang her up immediately to break the news. I returned to the list and then noticed The New India among the nonfiction picks.
This happened a day after it was picked for NPR’s end of year ‘Books We Love‘ by Diaa Hadid, who was quite generous.
I have screenshots in case they take it back.
